Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI)

Dear Parents or Caregivers,

Your child will be receiving extra help in reading through the Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) program. This program was designed for children who need an extra boost in their reading and writing skills to help them read at grade level. The goal of the LLI program is to provide a positive learning environment for your child while he or she learns to be an independent reader and writer.

Teachers who work with the LLI program provide daily instruction in a small group setting, with three to five students in each group. During a 30-minute period, students work on improving their reading, writing, phonics, and decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. The lessons are fast-paced to ensure high student engagement.

Through the LLI program, your child will gain the ability to deeply understand both fiction and nonfiction texts. He/She will read books in every lesson and will discuss the key understandings and vocabulary of each book. Through phonics and word work, your child will improve his/her abilities in and knowledge of rhyming, letters, letter/sound relationships, letter formation, word analysis, spelling patterns, and high-frequency words. Your child will also develop the ability to read smoothly and with expression.

The LLI program is typically 12 to 20 weeks long, but it can be lengthened or shortened depending on the needs of your child. While working with your child, teachers will continually monitor and record his or her growth. You will receive periodic updates of your child’s progress. If you would like any more information or have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Lisa Fauth
